A leading public transportation provider in Germany recently transformed its operations with a state-of-the-art control room upgrade. The newly modernized Control Center oversees the real-time management of a large regional transport network, handling complex tasks such as traffic coordination, passenger communication, and incident response across the system. Each year, they move over 200 million passengers spanning approximately 2,000 km of their extensive network of trains, streetcars, and buses.

Ensuring seamless operations across such this vast infrastructure requires more than just vehicles on the road—it demands a sophisticated technical backbone. A robust IT network supports every stop along the route, ensuring that critical systems function smoothly for both passengers, operators, and drivers.
With over 1,700 stops to manage, the Electronic Systems department holds a significant responsibility. This team is dedicated to maintaining and monitoring the day-to-day functionality of public transport operations, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and a seamless experience for millions of travellers.
Daily technical operations are coordinated from a state-of-the-art facility that became operational in 2017. The building features a central control center and over 100 specialized technical rooms, serving as the nerve center for the transportation network.
The original control room setup had become outdated and could no longer meet the operational demands of 24/7 transit management. Operators were struggling with multiple disparate systems, limited visualization capabilities, and increasing complexity in coordinating internal and external communications. The organization needed a scalable, unified, and operator-friendly solution to streamline workflows and improve situational awareness.
In late 2023, installation of the latest IT systems began with the goal of centralizing control over all video walls through a single user interface. The team needed a solution that would allow multiple departments to access the same web dashboards, each with the ability to control and modify their own displays independently without disrupting other teams.

The transportation authority deployed VuWall’s TRx Platform, a centralized AV-over-IP management system designed specifically for mission-critical environments. TRx enables the seamless distribution and control of visual content across a video wall, multiple operator workstations, and other displays throughout local or remote facilities. The new system was installed in close collaboration with local AV integrators Qvest and includes VuWall’s high-performance PAK video wall and KVM processing nodes and VuStream encoders for efficient source routing and display.
After much deliberation and the evaluation of various technologies, the client opted for VuWall’s advanced, flexible and modern approach: a distributed IP-based video wall system. This cutting-edge solution delivers superior content distribution, scalability, cost efficiency, and enhanced reliability over traditional, more bulky, monolithic video wall processing architectures.
The goal was to provide operators with a functionally optimized system that simplifies their work, where they can easily manage dashboards and remote PCs directly from the video wall using a single keyboard, mouse, and display interface (KVM).
Part of the solution includes VuWall’s TRx Control Panel Designer, where users can easily customize Control Panels tailored for their specific needs, making the system quick and easy to operate.
With VuWall’s TRx, operators at the Control Center now benefit from:
The upgrade has resulted in increased responsiveness during service disruptions, improved internal communication, and better coordination with emergency services. The Control Center now serves as a model for operational excellence and future-ready transit management.
This German Transportation Hub has significantly enhanced operational efficiency, improved situational awareness, and future-proofed its control room infrastructure. They are now equipped to meet the demands of modern mobility management, optimizing public transportation for millions of passengers each year, thanks to VuWall’s robust, flexible, and user-centric video wall and control system. With its advanced visualization capabilities and intuitive control interface, the Control Center is prepared for today’s challenges—and tomorrow’s.
