Charting New Waters: Navy Upgrades Command Center
Seamless AVoIP Control to Critical Military Operations with VuWall and Parker Group
When a major U.S. Navy Department of Defense (DoD) research, development, test, and training facility set out to modernize its outdated AV infrastructure, it needed a secure, scalable, and mission-critical solution. Partnering with Grupo Parker, a trusted federal integration firm, the Navy selected VuWall to deliver the AV-over-IP backbone for its transformation. Leveraging the Plataforma de gestión centralizada TRx and a large-scale deployment of Muros de vídeo PAK y nodos KVM y a Codificadores VuStream, the facility implemented a fully IP-based AV system that improved reliability, simplified control, and provided the flexibility to meet evolving mission demands.
The site now has more than 80 PAK 40 and 54 VuStream E240 units installed, making it one of VuWall’s largest TRx/PAK deployments to date and a benchmark for high-security operations.
Desafío
Before the upgrade, the facility relied on a patchwork of aging analog and digital systems including matrix switchers, hardware-based processors, and dedicated cabling, that created rigid infrastructure, high complexity, and limited flexibility. Multiple rooms served diverse operational purposes—training, testing, and monitoring—yet a small technical team was responsible for managing all AV systems. This setup introduced single points of failure, made scaling or reconfiguring difficult, and left the facility unable to integrate new technologies or respond quickly to changing mission requirements.
Solución
VuWall and Parker Group replaced decades-old baseband infrastructure with a unified, interoperable AVoIP system built on TRx and PAK. The modular architecture allowed centralized control of all AV sources and destinations via intuitive touch panels, with minimal operator training required.
The Parker Group team procured and installed five new LCD video walls: a 4×2, a 7×3, and three 6×4 configurations, that are powered by the TRx/PAK solution. Over 125 existing displays of various types and sizes were also brought into the network, each paired with a PAK-40-2 for seamless operations. The TRx API and TCP commands were used to integrate wall control functions such as power on/off, auto-calibration, and more, into the touch panel interface.
VuWall VuStream E240 encoders were deployed to ingest a wide range of content, from operator interfaces and dashboards to situational awareness feeds. Legacy analog camera sources were brought into the ecosystem using 32 Extron NTSC-to-HDMI converters interfaced with the VuStream E240s, ensuring no critical feeds were left behind.
The team converted over 32 operator stations from mechanical push-button video selectors to modern, configurable touch panels. These panels can be easily adapted for specific events or mission scenarios, giving operators unmatched flexibility.
Resultados
The upgraded system delivers real-time content management across multiple rooms, with simplified workflows, fewer points of failure, and significantly reduced administrative burden. Operators can reconfigure displays on the fly to meet changing mission requirements without physical rewiring.
The TRx platform’s scalability ensures that expanding the system or adding new sources is straightforward, while leveraging standard IT infrastructure has lowered long-term maintenance costs.
